"Margaret Izabel Renas Perry
Birth: Oct. 29, 1863, Santa Cruz, Azores Region, Portugal
Death: Feb. 15, 1958, Oakland, Alameda County, California, USA
Margaret was born in the village of Santa Cruz on the island of Flores in the Azores to Jose Pimentel Ramos and Maria Isabel. She was baptized on November 5, 1863. Her paternal grandparents Manuel Pimentel Ramos and Maria de Jesus. Her maternal grandparents were Jose Thomas Carneiro and Maria Isabel. Margaret's name is listed as Mararita Paulina on her marriage record. Margaret and her husband, Thomas Pereira (Perry), were married on October 19, 1868 in Mission San Jose, Calfornia and they lived in the town of Warm Springs at the beginning of their marriage. The family moved to Antioch, at least by 1886, and eventually to Berkeley sometime before 1908.
She was later known as having a maiden name of Renas. She is listed on her children Frank's baptism as Margarita Pimentel, on her son Joseph's as Margarita Leopoldina Pimentel and on her daughter Mary's baptism as Margarita P. Pimentel. Margaret was blind in her last years. When her family would come to visit, her great-granddaughter, Gail Knust Temple remembers that they would line up and she would feel them and and make some comment, like "Oh a big girl." and then they would go out to play. Margaret may have been sent for to marry her husband. Margaret's daughter, Margaret, said that her parents buried at least one child in Mission San Jose.
Her obituary appeared in the Oakland Tribune on February 17, 1958, page 27:

"J. R. Perry, the superintendent of the Carmel Canning Company, at Monterey, is a wide-awake executive of both experience and natural gifts for the administration of important interests. Born at San Jose, March 19, 1883, his parents are Thomas and Margaret (Renas) Perry. The former, a sea-faring man, came from the Azores Islands when young and at San Jose was married to Miss Renas. After years of hard and successful labor in farming, they are both enjoying comfortable retirement at Berkeley, and are still owners of a little farm near Pittsburg, California.
J. R. Perry attended the local schools of Pittsburg, where he remained until he was twenty years of age and he then went to Alaska where he worked in the salmon canneries. He began at the lower rounds of the ladder and after a while rose to be superintendent or manager but what was of more importance to him, he acquired valuable experience in studying canning from every angle, so that the years between 1900 and 1917, spent by him in Alaska, were particularly fruitful. Returning to California he settled in Monterey at a time when the plant of the Carmel Canning Company was being built and was put in charge by those anxious to secure dependable, up-to-date management. He was also given a chance to become a stockholder. This is one of the important fish canneries of northern California for in the busy season the Carmel Canning Company employs about one hundred and fifty hands and its superior fish products are shipped all over the world.
Mr. Perry was married to Miss Eva McCombe, a native daughter of San Mateo, a general favorite in the social circles in which she moves, and a sharer with her husband in his love and delight of out-door life and motoring. Mr. Perry is also fond of baseball. In poltics he is a republican, and is ever ready to support the program of the government in favor of protective trade. Monterey may well be congratulated upon such leaders in industrial and commercial movements as J. R. Perry, who has done his bit to add a new significance to the present position of historic Monterey and Carmel upon the map."
