"I found some notes about Gimbel relatives in Philadelphia and Lodi; Marie gave me this information and I have a hand-written note from Geneive Gimbel.
According to Marie brother John Gimbel came to America first. He lived in Philadelphia. He was married. In the Civil War he got a bullet in the stomach. I think he had a daughter Louise and a son Frank born around 1875. (In the letter from Genevieve she mentions that her husband Frank was named after his uncle Frank who left Philadelphia the day Genevieve's husband was born.) There is a grandson Frank Charles Gimbel born about 1919 or 1920, who had a son Frank Charles, Jr. born 1949.
Another brother of our Frank Gimbel was named Henry and he was the second to come to America. He had a ranch in Lodi, in vineyards. He was married and had 3 daughters. (He?) had cancer on the nose and died of cancer. Henry's three daughers are Louise, Emma and Tillie. The youngest, Tillie smoked cigars, married in early 50's and divorced. Louise married, my note says cowboys, so I'm not sure what that means. (She married a cowboy, or they were cowboys, or their children were cowboys?).
Also John, Henry and Frank had two sisters. Katie lived in Stockton; she didn't have the name of the other one."
[If Frank born in Hesse, then probably brothers and sisters also: John, Henery, Catheine, ...]

"HENRY GIMBEL, of Elkhorn Township, was born October 6, 1843, in Germany, his parents being Henry and Lizzie Gimbel. The father was a brick-maker by trade, which he followed till his death in 1849, at the age of forty-five years. When his father died, Henry, the subject of this sketch, was but a boy of six years of age. He was turned out into the world among strangers. In 1870 he came to America, landing in New York. He came at once to California, locating in Sacramento, where he remained about three years working for other people on different ranches. In 1873 he purchased his present ranch of 320 acres, situated about twelve miles from Stockton. He does a general farming business, raising hay and grain.
Mr. Gimbel was married in 1868, to Kate Wieheiser, a native of Germany. They have four children, namely: Katie, Louisa, Emma and Tilla."
