"Margaret Izabel Renas Perry
Birth: Oct. 29, 1863, Santa Cruz, Azores Region, Portugal
Death: Feb. 15, 1958, Oakland, Alameda County, California, USA
Margaret was born in the village of Santa Cruz on the island of Flores in the Azores to Jose Pimentel Ramos and Maria Isabel. She was baptized on November 5, 1863. Her paternal grandparents Manuel Pimentel Ramos and Maria de Jesus. Her maternal grandparents were Jose Thomas Carneiro and Maria Isabel. Margaret's name is listed as Mararita Paulina on her marriage record. Margaret and her husband, Thomas Pereira (Perry), were married on October 19, 1868 in Mission San Jose, Calfornia and they lived in the town of Warm Springs at the beginning of their marriage. The family moved to Antioch, at least by 1886, and eventually to Berkeley sometime before 1908.
She was later known as having a maiden name of Renas. She is listed on her children Frank's baptism as Margarita Pimentel, on her son Joseph's as Margarita Leopoldina Pimentel and on her daughter Mary's baptism as Margarita P. Pimentel. Margaret was blind in her last years. When her family would come to visit, her great-granddaughter, Gail Knust Temple remembers that they would line up and she would feel them and and make some comment, like "Oh a big girl." and then they would go out to play. Margaret may have been sent for to marry her husband. Margaret's daughter, Margaret, said that her parents buried at least one child in Mission San Jose.
Her obituary appeared in the Oakland Tribune on February 17, 1958, page 27:
Margaret Perry In Oakland, February 15, 1958, beloved wife of the late Thomas F. Perry; loving mother of Anna S. Perry, Joseph R. and Henry Perry of Monterey, Frank J. Perry of Fresno, Mrs. Margaret Dobson, Mrs. Grace Church, Mrs. Emeline Alvers of Oakland, Mrs. Alvina Souza of Hayward and the late Magdaline Silveira and May E. Perry; grandmother of 9 grandchildren. A native of Flores, Azores. A member of S.P.R.S.I. Council #78 of Berkeley. Interment, St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Spouse: Thomas Francisco Perry (1849 - 1937)*
Children: Mary Ellen Perry (1884 - 1944)*, Anna Stella Perry (1887 - 1973)*

- [S00172] Notes.
Logic: The Joseph P and Mary Ramos from the Azores in the 1880 Census matches the children and their ages. Also Joseph and Mary match the Azores baptismal record for daughter Margaret. Izabel.
The Renas photo album picture 30a says "Grandpa Renas' 1/2 sister, children, husband" which implies his father or mother remarried. Her Azores marriage record says Mary was a widow, and the 1910 Census shows this as Mary's second marriage (she was 26 so counld have had previous children.)
Problem: Need to search Azores records for Maria's first marrage and any children (to match the album picture of JTR's half-sister.)

[No other Joseph Renas in 1900; Same Rocha family neighbor as 1910 and 1920.]
[Daughter Emily not at home? She would be 23 but not married until December?]
[Reliable records say married Oct 1861 so in June they would be married 38 years, so is this "8" really 38?]
[Problem: Mary Renas with 7 children and 3 living, but Joseph has 6 living? Is this Mary a second wife and really only married 8 years?]

"... Margaret Renas. Her husband, Thomas Francisco Pereira, was the brother to my great grandmother, Filomena Augusta Pereira (they went also by Perry). They are buried at St Josephs Cemetery in Mission San Jose...her husband was Francisco Pereira Vargas.
I have Margaret in my database with the parents of Jose Pimentel Ramos and Maria Carneiro.....and that she was from Flores. The name Pimentel is very common in Flores. I got those names from their marriage record in Mission San Jose ... I have a picture of Thomas outside his house in Antioch with little girls in the picture... My grandmother used to talk about her uncle Thomas."

[Notice Marriage 2 for Mary. Did she have a daughter by the previous marriage, hence Joseph Thomas Renas' half-sister as per Photo album note?]
[Ages wrong, probably Joseph 74 because 65 in 1900.]
[Reliable records say they married Oct 1861 so in May they would be married 48 years. Marriage 2 for Mary is correct as their record says she married as a widow.]
