"Matthew Hale Perry (b. 8-27-1796 in Peru, Berkshire Co., MASS) is my ancestor. He married Pamelia (also written "Parmelia" and "Carmelia") Briggs (b. April 7, 1802 in E. Greenwich, Kent Co, RI) when both families were living in NY. Matthew Hale and Pamelia's first children were born in Potter, Yates Co., NY; they moved to IL and children were born in LaSalle Co. and DeKalb Co. before they settled in Kane Co. Eleven children were born to this union:
Dilla (Perry) Elliott b. Sept. 21, 1822 Potter, Yates Co. NY
Lucy (Perry) 1. Adams 2. Proctor b. 9-19-1825, Potter, Yates Co., NY, m2 G.W. Proctor (also noted as "George Proctor") from Tetney, England. My branch of this line surnamed Proctor went from DuPage Co. IL to Louisville, KY and on to Birmingham, AL -- then back to Springfield, IL.

"Mary (Perry) Tewkesbury is listed as "Aunt Mary" in family notes I have received from my cousin -- "had infant son Morris buried in S. Burlington" (IL) and "son Clarence 74 years old in 1941"
Matthew Hale Perry (b. Aug. 27, 1796) and Pamelia Briggs (b. Apr. 7, 1802) were married in New York State.
Josiah Jones Perry, seems to have died before the Civil War (1858).
Oliver Hale Perry, b. May 16, 1832, lost an arm -- and there is a story behind this -- and he later moved to the Chico, CA area, where he died at the age of about 93.
Amos Perry (b. April 9, 1834), who moved to Iowa, lost an eye.
Hale Perry (April 4, 1838) is said to be buried somewhere in Nashville: notes show his death Oct. 2, 1862.
George Washington Perry (b. Mar. 18, 1840) -- the notes say: "Uncle George, father of Arthur" and "married Andrews" -- seems to have survived the war.
Samuel Charles Perry (b. Sept. 24, 1843) -- "drummer boy, who was killed in the South, during the Civil War; buried in So. Burlington (IL)."

"The 8th Calvary, Company B, was first encamped in DC near the present day National Zoo (not sure on exact location, but Rock Creek Parkway had encampments I believe. Have seen references to Meridian Hill). They then moved to near Alexandria, where they acted as guards for the town."
