Joseph James - apparently not related to Rev. Thomas James. He rented a farm in Fairfield for several years prior to 1678 from his wife's mother; and had a grant from the town, Jan 1680; died in 1687. In Oct 1679, the Connecticut Assembly granted him 50 shillings per annum because of a disablement; "wounded soldier in the late warrs."
He married Mary Dickerson, daughter of Thomas. She received a legacy in the will of (her stepfather) Daniel Finch. He conveyed, 5 Dec 1687, to Nathan Adams, who hath married my daughter Mary with my consent. Mary married Nathan Adams about 1687."

m Mary Patchen, Birth 1621 in England Death 2 Dec 1687 in Fairfield, Fairfield, Connecticut; m 1645;"
"Edward Adams, as a young man, was among many pilgrims that originally sailed into the Boston harbor from England 15 or so years after the Mayflower of 1620 settled in Plymouth Harbor. After arriving in the Massuchusits Bay Colony harbor, (soon to be named Boston), some time prior to 1640 he sailed with one of several Puritan groups around Cape Cod to the south shore of Connecticut and settled in what was then called Quinnipiac. On 1 Sep 1640, the name was changed to New Haven by order of the general court.
A rich history of New Haven, Connecticut may be found in "The New Haven colony", (Yale Historical Publications - 1934), by Isabel MacBeath Calder.
There is a land record for Edward Adams in New Haven in 1640 and he likely married there. His wife's name was Mary Patchen. Enticements to move to Milford, about ten miles southwest along the seacoast, came to him, to which he agreed. This resulted in land being granted to him in Milford, January 19, 1645-6. This arrangement proved less than satisfactory, and about 1650 Edward, Mary, and probably two children, moved another fifteen miles southwest along the seacoast to Fairfield, Connecticut. Here they stayed, and at least four more children were born.
Edward died at a fairly young age, probably in his early fifties. ... He also gave to sons Samuel and Abraham part of his long-lot, and commonage. The rest of his land, housing, movables and cattle he gave to his wife Mary, while she remained his widow, entailing it to his minor sons Nathaniel, John, and Nathan."
