"1. Simon Hoyt was born 20 January 1590 at Upway, County Dorset, England, the son of John and Ruth Hoyt. he died 1 September 1657 at Stamford, Connecticut. He married (1) at Upway in December 1612 Deborah Stowers, daughter of Walter Stowers of Dorchester, who was born 1 May 1593 and how died in Massachusetts before 1635. By April of 1635 he had married (2) Susanna Smith, who died at Stamford early in 1674, having married Robert Bates of Stamford after Simon's death.
Simon, with his wife Deborah and her brother Nicholas Stowers, sailed for New England with Robert Endicott on the schooner "Abigail" in 1628. They landed at Charlestown, Massachusetts. Simon was at Dorchester in 1630, and in April of 1635 he, with his second wife Susanna, joined the church at Scituate, Massachusetts. He went to Windsor, Connecticut about 1639, and the "old Goody Hoyt" who died there in 1644 may have been his mother. He in 1646 moved to Fairfield, Connecticut. Not long before his death he went to Stamford, where he died and his inventory dated 9 October 1657.
